Australian Airports
International travellers arriving into an Australia airport normally arrive after a long haul across the Pacific or Indian Oceans arriving into Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth.
Other
International Australian airports include
Cairns,
Darwin and the
Gold Coast which
are each gateways to significant tourist areas of Australia.
Over 4 million visitors arrive in Australia every year and over half of those visitors arrive at Australia's busiest airport, Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport.
Hobart and Canberra both have International Australian Airports however neither receive regular tourist flights. Lying mid way between them, Canberra International Airport receives only overflow from Melbourne and Sydney in the cases of bad weather.
Apart from redirected International flights, the Canberra Airport has not received a regular international flight for many years. Most International travellers destined for Canberra normally transit in Sydney or Melbourne.
Hobart International Airport has not had a
regular scheduled international passenger service since the
1990s the official name of Hobart International Airport
remains. Besides charter International flights the Skytraders Airline conducts regular flights to Antarctica on
behalf of the Australian Antarctic Division . As such, the
airport maintains its international terminal building,
customs and immigration facilities.
Like most major airports around the world all major Australian Airports have numerous car rental facilities including International car hire companies like Hertz, Avis and Budget but also smaller Australian only car hire companies.
