Visit the Blue Mountains

There are plenty of highlights in the World-Heritage Area of The Blue Mountains, near Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. They include Scenic World, the Edge cinema, mountain biking and more...

Scenic World

Blue MountainsYou can get some great views of the valley just walking, but if you want something extra special, dangling over a huge drop courtesy of a suspiciously small wire can’t be topped. At Scenic World, you can hop on the Scenic Skyway which flies high above the ancient ravines and trickling waterfalls of the Jameson Valley. However, if the cable car effect isn’t enough to make you want to panic, then the see-through glass floor most certainly is. Scenic World is also home to the Scenic Railway, which proudly proclaims to be the world’s steepest.

The Edge Cinema at the Blue Mountains

If the big screen at your local cinema isn’t, well, big enough for you, then the giant screen here is the absolute daddy. It is a whopping six storeys high, and every day its shows a 40-minute-film that takes you to parts of the Blue Mountains that are virtually inaccessible to the average tourist.

Mountain Biking at the Blue Mountains

Blue MountainsIf you really want to get the blood pumping through your veins, then a mountain biking tour might be a little more up your passage than a bus trip. The Blue Mountains Adventure Company have a variety of biking itineraries, ranging from half a day of pleasantly simple pedalling to a full day of grunting up and down big hills.

Whichever you choose, it’s definitely a good way to see parts of the area you’d probably not get to normally and shift the flab at the same time.

Other Attractions at the Blue Mountains

Katoomba is the tourist centre of the Blue Mountains, and is one of those places that is really nice to have an aimless wander round. Bizarre little shops, nice cafes, a couple of quality pubs – that sort of thing. However, there are other little villages in the area that are really worth a meander as well if you have the time. Try a couple of hours in Leura, Lithgow and Oberon if you get the chance.
