Visit Broome in Western
Australia
Located between the sea and the red
deserts of Australia's Kimberley is the beachside town of
Broome, Western Australia.
Broome is known as the gateway to
the rugged and remote Kimberley district. With its
pristine tropical waters, Broome was founded over a
century ago as a pearling port to take advantage of the
abundant treasures in its tropical waters.
Aboriginals have called the
Kimberley home for thousands of years,
and their culture is central to
Broome today. European pastoralists and
Asian pearlers have all stamped their impact on the city and in
the early 1900s, Broome was renowned as the largest pearling
centre in the world. Broome's streets today reflects this mix
of cultures and influences in its people and architecture.
Visitors to Broome will find an
amazing and incredible travel destination well removed from the
big city lights of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
Broome's cultural melting pot gives it charm and character all
of its own.
Broome Attractions
One of Broome's famous attractions is
Cable Beach which stretches well
beyond the horizon for well over 100 kilometres or 90
miles. A sun lovers paradise, Cable Beach has attracted
tourists for years and there is even a ‘clothing optional’
section of the beach for those who like the sun all over.
Sunsets on Cable Beach are absolutely amazing and a sight
not to be missed.
The Cable Beach Club Resort is one of Broome's premier
accommodation options and is surrounded tropical gardens filled
with fragrant frangipani, shady palms and located within the
minute or two from the beach.
The resort rooms are spacious and in a bungalow style which
fits in with the local surroundings.
Tourism is Broome's main industry and although an amazing
sight in its own right, many visitors use the city as a central
base to explore the Kimberley.
Many of the cruises into the remote Kimberley leave from
Broome in addition to a huge number of land based tours. Broome
offers one of Australia's best experiences into the Australian
outback.
Visiting Broome
Australia's two largest domestic airlines, Virgin Blue and
Qantas both have regular air services from Perth.
Care must be taken when travelling to Broome and the
Kimberley's between November and April as this is the official
tropical cyclone season. The wet season coincides with the peak
in summer heat which is why it is traditionally the tourist low
season.
The oppressive heat, high humidity and heavy rainfall make
conditions challenging for just about everyone, but the
spectacular and wild lightning storms that are a feature of
this time of year still attract their share of visitors.
Visitors peak during the dry season from May to October
which offers far more friendly conditions with cooling offshore
winds, low humidity and comfortable daytime temperatures in the
high 20's and low 30's Celsius.
